Seventeen sectors post negative growth in 2007-08
Manufacturing growth slumps  
Indias manufacturing sector witnessed a decline between April 2007 and March 2008, according to a survey conducted by industry chamber Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Association of Council (ASCON).
Ban on silver, gold and sugar futures sought  
The governments decision to ban four more commodities from futures market has spawned a demand for suspension of forward trading in gold, silver and sugar as the industry blames speculation for volatility in prices.
Centre slaps Rs 33 crore service tax notice on CII  
The government has slapped a notice to apex industry association Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) asking it to make a payment of Rs 33 crore as service tax, but the chamber has questioned the move.
Great Offshore to buy SeaDragon for $1.4 billion  
Great Offshore is set to acquire Cayman Islands-based SeaDragon Offshore for US$1.4 billion that would give the Indian company rigs, which can be deployed for ultra deep water discovery.
