Farmers of Haveri have decided to lay siege to the Mahyco Company office in Ranebennur on May 21 in protest against delay in signing the cheques by the company officer released for second installment compensation to farmer who lost Chamatkar cotton seeds.
This was resolved at a ryots meeting held by the Uttara Karnataka Raitha Hitarakshana Samiti held here on Saturday.
Samiti President B M Jayadev said that the company had already provided Rs 2.61 crore with the intervention of the state government in disbursement of compensation.
The amount had been deposited in the account of the deputy commissioner. In turn, the DC had distributed money to respective tahsildars. The tahsildar and agriculture officers were ready to distribute the cheques. But the the Mahyco Company officers have not yet signed the cheques and they spending their time saying that the higher officers had to give consent. It is also said that the company officers were not cooperative with the tahsildar and agriculture officers, Mr Jayadev said.
