The three Memon brothers, for whom the CBI has sought death penalty on conviction of their participation in the 1993 terror bombings plot, decided to withdraw their bail plea.
Memon brothers took this decision just a week ahead of the special TADA court pronounces the sentences.
The three brothers are Yakub, Essa and Yusuf. They are brothers of fugitive Tiger Memon, who engineered the serial attack hatched by Dawood Ibrahim, suspected to be hiding in the safe terrorist heaven of Pakistan. The three convicts had moved the bail plea on medical grounds.
According to their counsel Subhash Kanse, the convicts decided to withdraw their pleas on Friday evening with the permission of the designated judge Pramod Kode.
The trio has been convicted for criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as also for aiding and abetting terror under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) for their role in the cowardly terror attack, that killed 257 innocent people in the city.
The other member of the Memon family who has been convicted is Rubina Memon. The court has granted her time to surrender on compassionate grounds and she remains on bail after being found guilty. The TADA court will start pronouncing the sentences for 100 convicts on May 18.
