A Christian missionary was reportedly asked to leave a village in Udaipur district of Rajasthan following conversion charges on Saturday.
Father Pal Ninama, resident of Jhabua area in Madhya Pradesh, had shifted to village Parsad in Udaipur in November last year. The villagers charged him of luring tribals for conversion with money. The pastor, however, reportedly maintained that he was there to educate tribal children.
The villagers reportedly recovered an air gun, a sword and list of 100 families from the pastor’s rented house in the village. The locals had objected to his attempts to convert tribals forcefully. He himself offered to leave the place, police sources said from Rishabhdev police station.
In a statement submitted to the police, the missionary has said that he was leaving the place voluntarily. The missionary, associated with Catholic Diocesan Society is said to have bought a land in Chawand, 65 km from Udaipur district. He has recently been transferred to the Saint Paul’s school in Rishabhdev. He was entrusted with the task of constructing a new school building in Chawand.
The villagers objected to the use of schools for promoting conversions. Earlier two such schools were closed.
