MLC G Janardhana Reddy, who is also the owner of Obalapuram mining company, is setting up a steel plant at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore at Jammalamadagu village, Cuddapah district, Andhra Pradesh and the proposal is expected to be cleared soon by the Andhra Pradesh government.
Reddy announced this while speaking to media representatives on the occasion of inauguration of the new railway line to Obalapuram mining company area, near the border.
The steel plant envisages production of 10 million tons by 2017. In the beginning the production will take off with 2 million tons at a cost of Rs 4,500 crore.
The steel plant will be called ‘Brahmani Industries’ and will sign an MoU with Andhra government.
“The proposal is under perusal with Andhra government and approval is expected shortly” he said.
An area of 8 acres has been identified for the plant, which will include integrated production unit with 200 MW capacity.
The plant will produce steel rods and wires. It is envisaged to employ 5000 people for the plant.
Reddy said he is ready to start such a factory in Karnataka also if permission is granted.
