As Mayawati took oath of office and secrecy as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow, the State unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) celebrated the occasion by distributing sweets and burning crackers in Bangalore.
Hundreds of workers gathered at the party’s office near the Lalbagh main entrance and distributed more than 10,000 laddus and burst crackers. State party president Gopal said the unit would launch a State-wide campaign to involve people from forward communities in BSP and strengthen the party at its roots. “We will follow Mayawati’s social engineering mechanism in Karnataka too. This day alone, over 500 people from different communities — including many Brahmins and Muslims — took the party membership”, he said.
