A round table discussion organised by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the city on Sunday resolved to demand the State government to order re-investigation into the seven-year-old Kambalapalli Dalit massacre incident as all the accused were acquitted recently by a court in Kolar due to lack of evidence.
Alleging that the Government was ignoring the case, the participants said the re-investigation had become necessary as all the witnesses against the accused turned hostile during the trial following which the court acquitted all of them.
They also demanded that the re-investigation should inquire why the witnesses, who had given evidence to the police, turned hostile during trial.
CPM State Secretariat member Maruthi Manpade said the Government, which had given an assurance to convene a meeting of Dalit organisations to discuss the demand for re-investigation, had failed to keep its promise.
Meeting
Mr Manpade also alleged that the meeting of a high-level committee on Dalit issues had also not convened after the formation of the present coalition government.
Representatives the of various Dalit organisations said that they would launch a demonstration in front of the Chief Minister’s residence if he failed to convene a meeting at the earliest.
