Gulbarga Mahanagara Palike (GMP) Commissioner S P Mudhol assured here on Monday that all the relevant files sought by the third party inspection team would be given to it immediately. This team is inspecting the works worth Rs 14 crore taken up in the City with the funds released under the Chief Minister’s special package, and the State Finance Commission (SFC).
This assurance by Mr Mudhol was given to Janata Dal (United) district President Raju Kulgeri who staged a protest in front of the GMP office in the City on Monday, charging that the GMP was stalling the third party inspection into the works.
Mr Mudhol stated that the City, since a last few days, was facing a severe shortage of drinking water. As such, as most of the GMP personnel, including the engineers, were busy in this, it had not been possible for the GMP to provide the relevant files and information sought by the inspecting team.
"As the water problem had been solved now, he said, the GMP engineers had been directed to provide the relevant files to the team," he added.
Charges
Dr Raju Kulgeri had charged that the GMP was specifically stalling the inspections of the works taken up in the City as they were of sub-standard quality, and this would come to light through the third party inspection. The third party inspection is being undertaken into the works taken up through the funds received by the GMP under the Chief Minister’s special package, and the SFC, which include 103 roads, 22 compound walls constructed around the parks in the City, erection of 24 high mast lamps, and laying of four footpaths. The total amount involved in this is nearly Rs 14 crore.
Dr Kulgeri stated that the third party inspection of these works had been taken up on the directions of the Karnataka Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde, based on a complaint filed by him (Dr Kulgeri) to the Lokayukta.
On the directions of the Lokayukta, Gulbarga Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey, who is also the GMP administrator, had asked the Gulbarga-based Poojya Doddappa Appa (PDA) Engineering College on March 29, 2007, to conduct the third party inspection, and had asked the Kruti Consultancies to organise the inspection.
Consequently, an experts team from the PDA Engineering College, led by Basavaraj Padashetty, with Rajshekar Hiremath and Mrutanjaya Asbhali had started the third party inspection of the works on April 24, 2007.
However, Dr Kulgeri charged that the GMP officials, when they came to know that the inspection was being conducted strictly, and that they would be definitely penalised for dereliction of duty, were stalling the inspection by giving lame reasons.
