Mutt denies charge of land encroachment
DH News Service, Shimoga:

Ramachandrapur mutt has denied the allegations of chopping the trees and land encroachment during the Vishwa Go Sammelana held at Ramachandrapura in this district from April 21 to 29.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, former director general of police T Madiyal, who is also the administrative officer, denied charges of  discriminatory practices during the event. He said: “Lakhs of people hailing from different caste and community took part in the event and common dining was arranged. The event was organised with noble purpose of creating awareness about the importance of native cow breeds and farmers are greatly benefited from Go Sammelana”.
The event took a political turn with opposition parties and former prime minister and JD(S) national president H D Devegowda ta-king exception to the funds released for the mutt for the function.
Former Chief Minister and State Samajwadi party chief S Bangarappa and Congress leader Siddaramaiah had termed Go Sammelana as “BJP’s attempt to consolidate its position.”
Ignoring the charges, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced that grants would be increased for such events in future. Sangha Parivar leaders took part in the event with great enthusiasm.
Various progressive organisations, including Dalit Sangharsh Samiti and Namma Hakku Vedike alleged that there was a large-scale chopping of the trees and encroachment of forest land during the Sammelana.
Meanwhile, DC Anil Kumar has directed the Sagar Assistant Commissioner to probe into the allegations of land encroachment.
