When author and journalist P T Bopanna conceived the idea of bringing out ’Discover Coorg’ he did not expect it to be such a popular guidebook but hoped to give an insight into Coorg and help tourists understand the historical and cultural aspects. Recently, the third edition of the book was released with many new features.
Among them is ‘Coorg Weekend Tour Plan’ compiled by Priya Ganapathy, media and entertainment personality, known for her iconic characters ‘Lingo Leela’ and ‘Sister Stella’.
From the second edition, talented personalities like Ponappa were featured for his cartoons. Also, wildlife photographer Krupakar Senani and many other interesting contributions have been retained in the third edition.
In the latest edition, Bollera Jajie Mandanna, consumer activist and former president of the Bangalore Kodava Samaja, has written an article on the proceedings of a typical Kodava wedding. A write-up on Virajpet, which is relatively obscure to most people but is the second most important town in Coorg, has been added to the third edition which has extra 16 pages. The list of popular stays where tourists can live and experience authentic Kodava hospitality has been extended. When the book was launched in 2006, it was targeted towards the tourists who kept on flocking towards this green holiday retreat. Soon the locals too began to buy it, eventually giving rise to a second, improved edition which proved to be a major success as well.
Bopanna also plans to bring out editions in regional languages to increase awareness and interest in Coorg all over the world. The web-edition of the book is available at www.coorgtourism info.com and www.coorgrecipies.com
The book is priced at Rs195. Call 9342430141 for more details.
