Private bus owners who have got permission to ply buses must commence operations within May 18. Else licence will be cancelled and fine imposed, warned Deputy Commissioner M B Dyaberi.
Speaking while presiding over the meeting of the Regional Transport Authority in Davangere on Tuesday, he pointed out though more than 50 licenses were issued for plying private buses not many have begun operations.
If the private players do not begin operations within three days then they will be fined Rs 2,000 in addition to revoking their licence, he added.
Bus services between Honnali and Nyamati is hampered due to the menace of auto-rickshaws, reported bus owners and urged the DC to take preventive measures as the autorickshaws ply for more than 15 kilometres outside the cities.
The DC directed the officials to conduct series of surprise inspections and report back to him.

‘IRRESPONSIBLE DRIVING’
DC Dyaberi pointed out that the private bus drivers were driving irresponsibly. Elaborating on an incident, he said that the bus ‘Mahadeva’ narrowly missed hitting his car near Anaji recently, bringing to the fore irresponsible driving. The drivers do not care for lives, he opined. He directed the RTO H G Tembad to cancel the licence to ‘Mahadeva’ bus.
NEW SERVICE
The deputy commissioner directed the officials to start bus service to Madhuranayakanahalli where Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will be staying as part of his village stays programme.
