Former Karnataka State Open University VC N S Rame Gowda has admitted that during his tenure he recruited a large number of Vokkaligas on temporary basis as they were the dominant community in the Mysore region.
Mr Rame Gowda told reporters here on Tuesday he had appointed 170 temporary workers, 40 per cent of whom were Vokkaligas, 24% each of OBCs and SC/STs, 6% of Lingayats, and 3% each of Brahmins and Muslims. Merit and experience of candidates, too, were considered.
Repeating his earlier statement that he had to oblige many Vokkaliga legislators while filling up the posts, he added that he was ready to face any inquiry in this regard.
Mr Rame Gowda also clarified the university didn’t advertise these post as it was not mandatory.
CM not at fault
Mr Rame Gowda has found no fault with the Chief Minister directing the current vice-chancellor to reinstate daily wagers.
The CM has reacted to the woes of the daily workers.
“If I were the VC now, I would have no problem with the CM’s action. The employees have been staging a protest for the last one and half years. When the VC doesn’t solve the problem, the chief minister has to intervene, even though the university is an autonomous body,” Mr Rame Gowda said.
