Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, she said though they should have got more number of chances to contest in the elections, they could not “in the male-dominated society”.
“Our brothers were not ready to sacrifice their seats for the sake of women. However, the representation has increased considerably. As many as 11 women candidates are contesting this time,” she said.
Terming the tabling of Women’s Reservation Bill in Rajya Sabha as a major contribution of UPA government towards women empowerment, Ms Thakur said she wish that the Bill is implemented by the time of next General Elections so that there will not be situation where women need to plead for opportunities.
Women Congress State President Rani Sathish said the wing will inform the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi regarding less number of seats given to them in the coming days. Seeking more grants to Sthree Shakthi groups, better education facilities to girls- are the priorities of Women Congress, she said.
