A day after Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje urged the Centre to approve the Rajasthan Organised Crime Control Protection Bill to help the state better equip itself, she announced to form a Special Task Force soon to fight terrorism.
Addressing a press conference at her residence here on Thursday, Raje said the state would study the models of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh for the Special Task Force.
Speaking about the progress of investigations in the Jaipur blasts, Raje said the e-mail sent to a television channel showing a bag reportedly with the bomb placed inside and kept on the carrier of a bicycle sounds like a ploy to mislead the investigation.
She said if the bombs were placed in the bag as shown in the e-mail picture, the cycles should have been destroyed from the back. But the bicycles have been mangled on the front whereas the back is safe, so it seems it might be a ploy to trick us.
The nine blasts in the city seem to have a similar pattern to Malegaon and Uttar Pradesh, she added.
She said a Special Investigation Team of the Rajasthan police was working in co-ordination with the National Security Guards and the Intelligence Bureau to investigate the blasts. The terrorists used special type of ball bearings, two detonators, not just one and a curved projectile to inflict maximum damage, she added.
Refusing to share more information, she said it would only hamper the investigation. Referring to the Girish Saxena (a former head of RAW) Committee’s recommendations of 2001, she said none of the recommendations have been implemented. The committee had suggested setting up a multi agency centre to facilitate co-ordination between centre and states to handle increasingly sophisticated means used by terrorists.
She said we need strong laws and comprehensive mechanism to reach to the mastermind. For it’s not a crime, we are in the middle of a war, she added.
BOMB HOAX AT SAI BABA's TEMPLE
New Delhi & Lucknow, agencies: Two days after the Jaipur serial blasts shook the nation, it was Delhi’s turn to feel the shivers after a hoax call informing about a bomb planted at a famous Lodhi Colony temple. The police said the news of a bomb being planted at the Sai Baba temple created panic and security forces evacuated the temple while a coordinated search was mounted from all ends.
Since it was a Thursday, devotees flocked the temple in large numbers. However, nothing was recovered even after two hours of search.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh DGP, Vikram Singh, received two SMSes which threatened to blow up the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) installation in Lucknow, hours after the devastating serial blasts in Jaipur. “The DGP received SMSes on May 13 after the serial blasts in Jaipur, threatening blasts in HAL, Lucknow,” ADG(Law and Order) Brijlal said. The sender of the message has been traced and detained for interrogation.
