Some unidentified miscreants barged into a house after breaking open the door, locked up the lone woman in the house and looted jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh, at Madikeri on Wednesday around 10.30 am.
The house belonged to retired revenue officer Keshava and Meenakshi who is working as a clerk at deputy commissioner’s office here.
According to the police, only Keshav’s mother-in-law Parvathi (85) was at home when the miscreants barged into the house. They later, tied up Parvathi and locked her in a room and then looted jewellery and sarees after breaking open a iron cup board.
The incident came to light after Mrs Parvathi managed to inform her neighbours. Though the police and fingerprint experts rushed to the spot and a dog squad was pressed into service, it was of not much help.
The miscreants looted jewellery worth Rs 1.3 lakh and Rs 10,000 in cash. Madikeri police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by Mr Keshav. Further investigations are on.
SP Dr Trilokchandra and Circle Inspector P S Krishnakumar visited the spot.
