Sethusamudram project: Centre's decision criticised
DH News Service, Bangalore:
"This bridge built by Lord Rama has historical significance and should be protected at all costs," Jagadguru Shankaracharya, Sri Sri Swaroopananda Saraswathi Maharaj said.

Jagadguru Shankaracharya, Sri Sri Swaroopananda Saraswathi Maharaj, Paschimamanya Dwaraka and Uttaramnaya Jothishpeetham, Badri on Thursday criticised the Central government’s decision to go ahead with the Sethusamudram project which would lead to the destruction of the historic Ramar bridge.
Speaking at Civic Reception organised to felicitate the seer, he said the construction of the sethusamudram project should be stopped immediately and that the entire nation should protest against it.
“The entire nation should unite to prevent the destruction of Ramar bridge (while implementing the Sethusamudram project).
This bridge built by Lord Rama has historical significance and should be protected at all costs,” he said.
The Shankaracharya who is camping in the city since May 16 also called for universal peace and brotherhood.
The 83 year old pontiff who has been a part in the freedom struggle and was involved in various community development programmes across the country, is in Bangalore after 29 years.
Former minister PGR Sindhia, Gandhian Haranahalli Ramaswamy were among other who felicitated the Shankaracharya.
