Infant's death leads to tension in hospital
DH News Service, Chitradurga:

Tense situation prevailed in the District Hospital for some time when the relatives alleging doctors’ negligence for the death of an infant while it was delivered staged a protest, here on Thursday.
The relatives alleged that no doctor was present while the baby was being delivered and only ayahs were there.
They did not even show the infant to the mother and instead told her that the child was alive and was kept in the intensive care unit. But in the morning they brought the body of the infant.

Negligence
Gynaecologist Dr Pushpa had given the delivery date of the child for Nagaveni of Kurubarahatti in the taluk for sixth of next month. But since she developed labour pains on May 15 itself she was admitted to the hospital.
The doctor has allegedly told the nurses that the delivery might take place some time late in the night and left.
The doctors have neglected their duty,  and instead asked the duty ayahs to take over the responsibilities, alleged the relatives to the media persons.

Denies
District surgeon Dr Kamareddy said, “As the water was filled in the womb, it resulted in premature death. It was not due to doctors’ negligence.” In spite of this Dr Pushpa has been sent on compulsory leave to conduct investigation. On May 21 a departmental inquiry will be held, said Dr Karmareddy.
