CM to lay foundation stone for veterinary college

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will lay foundation stone for the construction of a building of College of Veterinary Sciences at Sominakoppa near here on May 18 at 12.30 noon.
Addressing a press conference in the City on Thursday, Vice Chancellor of University of Veterinary Sciences Prof R N Srinivas Gowda said that Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and Minister for Animal Husbandry Revu Naik Belamagi will take part in the programme.
College of Veterinary Sciences has begun functioning in Shimoga from the last academic year and classes are held at Sahyadri College at present where 27 students are pursuing BVS course. 158 acre land has been acquired at Sominakoppa near the City for construction of new building for the Veterinary College, he said.
College of Veterinary Sciences in Shimoga will be developed into a centre of advanced learning.
The proposed Centre for Study of Toxic Sciences will function in the campus of Veterinary College. Study and research regarding native cattle breeds like Malnad Gidda, Amruta Mahal and others will be undertaken here.
The college will boost dairy and poultry industry in Malnad region, he opined.
The vice chancellor also informed that the Government has given nod for setting up Institute of Dairy Sciences at Gulbarga, College of Veterinary Sciences at Hasan, Wildlife Study and Research Centre at Madikeri and Vaccine Research Centre at Belgaum. Dean Dr Govindaiah, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Dr Ravindra were present at the press meet.
