Extinction Confronting Humanity
Colombo, May 17.
Prime Minister Nehru declared that the bomb had come to prove that “if you use it to injure others, you injure yourself and, may be, injure the whole world”.
He was replying to an address of welcome presented to him by the Colombo Municipal Council. Pandit Nehru, who referred to the possibility of extinction confronting humanity as a result of what man himself was making and thinking about said: “We may perhaps succeed in placing some kind of limitations or restrictions on the use of these new weapons”.

Lok Sabha Approves President’s Address
New Delhi, May 17.
The Lok Sabha today gave broad approval to policies and programmes outlined in the President’s address. All Opposition amendments were rejected.
The highest number of votes the Opposition could muster on an amendment in the House today was 79 against government’s 246.

Sino-Indian Talks Cordial

New Delhi, May 17.
The second round of the Sino-Indian negotiations on the border issue and other bilateral matters got off to a business-like start here this morning in an atmosphere of mutual cordiality.
At an hour-long meeting of the two delegations, four working groups were set up to deal with bilateral issues in depth. While one of these groups was entrusted with the task of going into the specifics relating to the border dispute, the other three groups are to study the potential of co-operation in the fields of culture, trade and commerce and science and technology.
