Bored of routine family soaps and slapstick comedy sitcoms? Want something different to watch everyday? Wait till 10 pm on May 21. Detective Dhanush will come and enthral you on Zee Kannada on week days. Sounds a welcome switchover from the mundane crime episodes day after day, isn’t it?
“Though detective stories are full of interesting twists, turns and suspense, it is very challenging to make the viewers glued to their TV sets daily. It is a first of kind attempt on Kannada small screen”, says actor- theatre director Srinivasaprabhu who is directing Detective Dhanush besides playing the lead role. He is also producing the serial under Srinidhi Chitra.
The serial is inspired by world famous scottish author Arthur Canon Doyle’s detective novels and short stories. Detective Dhanush is the Desi avatar of Sherlock Holmes.
“We have adapted these stories to our nativity and have taken care to make them more interesting”, Prabhu says.
“We have already shot eight stories. Each story will be covered over two or three episodes. Some long stories have run into five/six episodes. We have also utilised Agatha Christie fictional works. We are looking at the less known Kannada detective fiction too”, he explains.
Long back in 1989, Prabhu was associated with serial Ajithana Sahasagalu, adaptation of Sherlock Holmes stories for Bangalore Doordarshan (B V Rajaram and Prithviraj were in the lead roles). Krishna Sharma who had adapted and written dialogues then.
“He is also assisting in this venture”, a proud Prabhu says remembering the huge success of the serials.
Babu Hirannaiah will play Dr Watson’s role as Dr Vatsa. Ravi Kiran, Lamboo Nagesh, Dharmendra Urs, Shankaranarayan, Harshavardhan, Namitha Rao, Sapna Rao and Suresh Rai are in the cast.
Well-known Sugama Sangeetha singer-composer Upasana Mohan has composed the title music. Srinivasaprabhu, Ranjani Prabhu, Krishnasharma, Sandhya Sharma and Uday have jointly written the story and dialogues. C Narayan has handled the camera.
