Meet Aarti Chabria, the gorgeous 5’5” tall Sindhi girl from Mumbai, the farex baby of her time, who grew up to win the Miss India Worldwide 2000 crown. Her latest Telugu release Gopi celebrated a 100-day run at the box-office in Andhra Pradesh, in which she played the role of a terrorist in the movie with a split personality. Mention her name and one cannot forget her in the comic Hindi film Awaara Pagal Deewana, besides a host of others such as Shaadi No 1, Sukh, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo, Raja Bhaiya and Lajja.
She has also worked in music videos, including Adnan Sami’s Rute Huay Ho Kyon before Venus audio company called her for a screen test for their film Tum Se Achcha Kaun Hain. She has also anchored shows before she took to acting. Aarti’s face has seen the launch of more than 200 brands including Pepsodent, Krack cream and Amul in the market. Before she gets down to talk about herself in this interview, she insists: “Please get the spelling of both my name and surname right. People have often misspelt my name.”
How do you describe yourself as an actress? Once my makeup is done and I am in front of the camera, I change personality. I become so professional that I surprise myself.
Which are your forthcoming movies? In the Hindi film Shootout at Lokhandwala, I play the role of a conservative Muslim girl who falls in love with a bhai from the underworld. I am doing another film called Anamika opposite Dino Morea and Boney Kapoor’s film Milenge Milenge, opposite Shahid Kapur directed by Satish Kaushik is due for release. Tum Mere Ho, Team – The Force and Kisse Pyar Karoon are my other films on the floor.
What are you most comfortable wearing? Who designs your clothes and your favourite designers? For a normal wear, I like to wear fitted jeans with a white shirt and a nice belt that goes with it. However, I hate to be seen in skimpy clothes. I am personally not too happy wearing such costumes in films.
For a film party, I would go dressed in a chiffon or a satin evening gown. I like attending non-filmi parties which gives me an opportunity to put on a T-shirt with a jeans. I love getting decked up in a saree for weddings. Shalu (Shamayil Khan) and Manish Malhotra are my favourite designers.
But, I designed my own outfits for this Kannada film Santha. I love shopping at Bangkok, Hong Kong and New York.
In the US, I pick up all my clothing stuff at Forever 21. But, Dubai is according to me, my hottest and my most favourite shopping destination.
What is your idea of a perfect holiday? Which is your favourite holiday spot?
I love beaches and Goa is my favourite holiday destination. I want to visit Paris for a holiday with oodles of money to blow it up. I should remind you guys to visit New York during Christmas. The city looks so beautiful that I wish to go back every year during Christmas.
Though I don’t read novels, right now I am reading Tao of Healing by Haven Trevino, which throws a lot of light on the way of living.
What is your idea of a dream man?
Love is a beautiful feeling in everyone’s lives. I have no particular description of the man I would like to spend the rest of my life with.
I am just waiting for that romantic guy to come right in front of my eyes. I am waiting to see him.
