Centre hikes khariff prices
The Centre on Thursday night made an across-the board hike in Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for various crops for the khariff season 2007-08, DHNS reports from New Delhi.
The enhanced MSPs for various crops for the khariff season 2007-08 were approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) at its meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The enhanced MSPs would be effective from October 1, 2007.
Announcing the MSPs, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said the MSP for common variety of paddy for 2007-08 had been fixed at Rs 645 per quintal reflecting a hike of Rs 65 in the MSP of the previous year.
ITI to get Rs 352 crores aid
The Centre on Thursday night decided to provide an assistance of Rs 352 crores to the state-owned Indian Telephone Industries Limited (ITI) for meeting the requirement of payment of statutory dues and grants to employees opting Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), DHNS reports from New Delhi.
A decision to this effect was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs at its meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
