How do you make a Happiness Book? It's really quite simple, and it costs very little. All you need to start with are some blank pages and something to put on those pages. What you put in the book will be up to you. The only requirement is that it makes the reader happy.
Jokes, short stories, poems, articles, cartoons and photographs are all good material for a Happiness Book. And you don't have to buy any of them. You will find all you need in old newspapers and magazines. Just make sure everyone in the family is finished with the newspaper/magazine before you start cutting things out.
By the way, not everything in the Happiness Book has to come from a newspaper. If you like to write your own stories or poems or jokes or narrate an incident, then you should. You could even add your drawings and paintings.
Before you do any gluing, place the material for each page in front of you. Does it look good the way you have arranged it? If not rearrange it. And remember you don't have to fill every page. You might put a lot on one page and then just put one very funny joke all by itself on the next page. Do one page at a time and don't put the book together until the glue is completely dry. Otherwise you may end up with a lot of stuck pages.
Gift a book
In most cases the jokes and other things you cut out of newspapers may not have much colour. Why not decorate some of the pages— as many as you want to— with your own designs and drawings? Crayons, felt pens and coloured pencils can be used.
When all the pages are complete and dry, put them on top of each other in book form. You can make an attractive front page to add on top. Then put some brightly coloured ribbon or string through the holes made in pages and your Happiness Book is all ready.
Perhaps, you could present a Happiness Book to cheer up your friend or relative in hospital or sick at home. When you are making it for someone, the important thing to consider is the taste of the person for whom you are making it. On the front page you could put the name of the person receiving the book, any message you wish, then your name.
Can the Happiness Book make someone or you really happy? Try it and see!
