Stosur ousts Mauresmo

Top-seeded Amelie Mauresmo was upset by 29th-ranked Samantha Stosur 7-5, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (7) in the second round of the Italian Open here.
Mauresmo wasted two match points, including one when she served for the match at 5-3 in the third set.
Second-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova and number three Jelena Jankovic advanced. Kuznetsova beat Mara Santangelo 6-3, 6-3, and Jankovic eliminated 16-year-old Austrian qualifier Tamira Paszek 6-3, 6-4.
Also, fifth-seeded Nadia Petrova edged Meghann Shaughnessy 7-6 (5), 6-1, sixth-seeded Dinara Safina beat Kaia Kanepi 7-6 (5), 6-2; and No seven Anna Chakvetadze defeated Yan Zi 6-1, 6-3.

Nadal on song
Rafael Nadal extended his record winning streak on clay to 78 matches when he beat fellow Spaniard Oscar Hernandez 7-5, 6-1 to reach the Hamburg Masters third round, adds AP.
Earlier, Roger Federer struggled to beat Juan Monaco 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in the second round.
Federer will next play Juan Carlos Ferrero, who converted his fifth match point to beat Marat Safin 6-3, 7-6 (15), after Safin squandered five set points.
Nadal, cruised after clinching the close first set against Hernandez. Nadal next plays Igor Andreev, the last player to defeat him on clay, in the Valencia Open quarterfinals on April 8, 2005.
Andreev beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-4. Also, Carlos Moya rallied to upset 10th-seeded Tomas Berdych 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (6), and 16th-seeded Lleyton Hewitt defeated Juan Ignacio Chela 6-2, 7-6 (3). James Blake, seeded eighth, defeated Arnaud Clement 6-2, 6-3.
