The wait was over and it was technology again which helped in telling the fate of the II year Pre-university students well in advance. However, the difference this year was that the usually packed internet parlours wore almost a deserted look thanks to the results being available through mobile phones and the IVRS system on telephone.
There were a few students who came into the internet parlours to check their results. Initially they were tense, but when they realised that they had cleared, then the million dollar smile broke out. There were some sad faces too - some had not got the expected results and others did not make it.
Although the real test of applying for professional courses and application hunting had begun, students decided to take it easy for a day and then begin the future building process.
Cyber cafe owners, however, did not seem too pleased with the results going mobile. The long queues that had existed last year was only a memory. Yogesh, proprietor of cyber Point said: “Last year in two hours, I had made Rs 5,000, but this year, the collection has barely touched Rs 300. Students get their results on mobiles and many have internet connections at home and hence the cafes are no longer in demand.”
