They alleged that the hostels do not even have cots, tables and charis for the students. There is also shortage of drinking water. The protestors demanded that a fence be built around the hostel buildings.
Many of the hostels do not have road connectivity. If these demands are not met immediately, the association will intensify the protest, they warned.
Reacting to the protest Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer F R Jamadar said that the ZP has already written a letter to Social Welfare Department asking it to provide the basic facilities to these hostels. As of today an aid of Rs 13.15 lakh has been released by the Zilla Panchayat. Because of the dearth of funds the work has not been going on in full swing.
By the next academic year the problems will be solved completely, he said.
Student leaders B Manjunath, M G Venkatesh, Sampath Kumar, Shashidhar and others led the protest.
