Rahul, who is currently on a two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency, visited the house of Mankaur Pasi and Sumitra Pasi at Banpurwa village on Friday night and stayed there till the wee hours, according to Congress sources here on Saturday.
The Dalit couple and the other villagers were surprised when Rahul’s cavalcade comprising four cars reached her house around 2200 hours on Friday. The MP not only mingled with the Dalit couple but also asked Sumitra to prepare ‘puri’ and ‘sabzi’ for him, sources said.
The Congress leader also held a ‘chaupal’ (meeting of the village people) and inquired about the problems being faced by them. “Rahul specifically inquired about the progress of NREGA and other schemes being funded by the Centre in the area,” sources quoting the villagers said.
Earlier in the evening Rahul also visited another village in his constituency and held another ‘chaupal’ with the locals at a temple.
Rahul reportedly counselled the villagers to approach the officials for seeking employment under the scheme and also for the development of their respective areas as it was their right.
He also sought to know if the local Congress workers lent a helping hand to the villagers in resolving their problems, party sources said. The Congress MP had dinner after the chaupal was over well past midnight, sources said.Four women of the village including a nine-year-old girl sought Rahul’s help in their treatment to which he readily agreed and directed his staff to make necessary arrangement.
