How did you get into the hair-care business?
Frankly speaking, I wanted to travel extensively. (laughs). My girlfriend at that time was a hair dresser and I slowly developed an interest in it and found I was actually pretty good at it.
Why is hair colour so important?
Look at it this way, when you look at a black and white movie, face it...it’s not that intriguing. Colour brings out the best of the movie and really grips you, the same works with hair. Colour looks different on different hair, so every person’s hair is unique. So you can always say “My hair is unique” because nobody else can have the exact same colour.
How do you think it accentuates ones features?
It gives a 3D effect to a person and there are multiple dimensions to viewing the same person. It makes a person look taller, smaller or bigger depending on what colour and style they adapt to. It’s purely on the basis of instinct and training. I have been in this business for over 17 years.
Is it styling or colour that makes a difference?
It’s a mix of both as in colour and style complement each other. When you have a great style and an ordinary colour you look nice. If you have a great colour and an ordinary style, you still look nice. But when you have a great colour and a great style, it’s simply brilliant.
How can you get into the hair-care profession in Asia?
The career option is quite lucrative. there are a lot of professional institutes which formally train you. But apart from that, you also need to nurture yourself and groom yourself accordingly. You have to throw yourself completely with all feeling into what you are doing and that is the best way
