Former lokayukta Justice Venkatachala opined that most of the green belt is being sold to landgrabbers using government funded agencies like Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Save Bangalore Convention’ organised by the Bangalore Platform of Citizens’ Associations in the City on Saturday. The Bruhat Bangalore plan is only a ruse to sell the green belt around Bangalore, he added.
Environmentalist Yellappa Reddy said parks are the lungs of the city and lakes are its kidneys. People should become alert and resist any move to pollute our surroundings.
While Emeritus Professor, Indian Institute of Science, Prof B R Srinivas Murthy talking about the traffic situations in the city said Police should do traffic control not traffic management. The roads, traffic density and traffic patterns should be studied to arrive at a scientific solution. He said a comprehensive plan for roads and infrastructure is the need of the hour.
