Charging that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had been completely neglecting the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, the Gulbarga District Affiliated Cricket Clubs Association (KDACCA) on Sunday warned of banning all the cricket activities taken up by the KSCA in the district if the same continues.
The KDACCA has also demanded the KSCA to form a separate Gulbarga zone, and voting rights for the cricket clubs in the district.
This demand was made at a media conference held here on Sunday, jointly addressed by KDACCA President Raju Kulgeri, General Secretary Arshad Hussain, Vice-Presidents M G Joshi and Shankar Pillai, and others.
Dr Raju Kulgeri pointed out that the Hyderabad-Karnataka region had been completely sidelined by the KSCA. He stated the KSCA had made seven cricket zones in the State. However, he pointed out that, except the Raichur zone, all other zones consisted of just three districts, which gave lot of opportunities for the cricketers there to play at the State-level.
However, he pointed out that even though Gulbarga was the major place in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, still it did not have a separate zone, but was included in the Raichur zone. Moreover, unlike others zones, the Raichur zone consisted of six districts, he added.
Dr Kulgeri charged that even though two to three league tournaments were held by the KSCA annually in all the zones, still only one league was allotted for the Raichur zone, and this too was on a ‘knock-out’ basis, wherein the cricketers were denied of an opportunity to show their talent.
Thereby, he demanded the KSCA to form a separate zone for Gulbarga comprising the districts of Bidar, Gulbarga, and Bijapur. He said, most of the cricket clubs in the State had the voting rights to vote in the KSCA elections, but the clubs in the Raichur zone was denied of this right. He demanded voting rights for the clubs here.
He said, putting forth these demands the KDACCA was submitting a memorandum of their demands to the Gulbarga deputy commissioner on June 1, to be forwarded to the KSCA. Also a letter regarding this would be written to the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).
