BJP-JD(S) will have a friendly fight in the Ullal by-election, said Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.
Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, he said: “We had won the election from Ullal once. This time we will be winning with majority.”
“By-polls is an ordeal for the voters. So far Congress has been winning the election in Ullal. The coalition government has done lot of good work for the minorities. It is the voters who have to choose one party victorious.”
He alleged that Congress is involved in vote bank politics.
“We have earmarked more funds to carry out various programmes for the upliftment of the minorities.”
To a query on Congress flaying the government for earmarking funds for the Mutts, he said: “We are not those people who visit temple and mutt’s in hiding. We have great respect for mutts and temples. Mutts have played a vital role in the progress and development of the society. Who are they to oppose for helping the mutts?” he asked and added: “There are several instances where Congress government has allotted 100 acres of land to mutts. They are involved in sowing the seeds of communalism among minorities.”
To a query on Congress submitting memorandum to Governor stating that no developmental works have been undertaken in the State, he said “let them wait till the completion of 40 months of coalition government. Let us go to the people and let the people decide. Congress does not have the right to speak of our developmental works. They are unable to digest our success.”
Code of conduct
Mr Yediyurappa said that he will speak to Governor and Chief Election Commissioner not to make code of conduct applicable to the entire Dakshina Kannada district. The code would hamper the developmental works in the district. The code should be restricted to the constituency only, he added.
To a query on Karkal MLA Sunil Kumar being elevated to the post of National Yuva Morcha General Secretary, he said an opportunity has been given to a youth to serve. “We were projecting him at the State-level so far. Now he has become a national-level leader. I am happy over the selection.”
