The Centre had no objection to a CBI probe into Friday’s blasts in Hyderabad and would discuss it with the state government, Union Minister Shivraj Patil said here on Saturday.
He said the government was taking all measure to ensure such attacks do not happen.
Addressing the media, Mr Patil said the bombs were placed in a religious place by those who wanted to create bad blood between the two major communities. He said there was a terror threat to religious places in the state and that increased security measures were taken in all pilgrim centres and religious places.
The Centre would help the state in every way to meet the contingencies arising from the situation, he said.
Responding to a question, he said the government had information of terror attacks but it was not easy to gather where and what form such attacks would take.
Declining to name the suspects in the terror attack, he said, “We should not jump to conclusions. We do have some information but premature disclosure does not help in investigation.”
‘Design’ to target
Stating that there was a “design” to target not only mosques but also temples and churches to create “bad blood” among various communities, the Minister cautioned against linking Friday’s blasts with the September 2006 explosion at a mosque in Malegaon in which over 35 people were killed.
“Let us not jump to conclusions... the Malegaon case is being examined and this case will also be investigated,” Mr Patil said after visiting the blast site and the hospital where the injured were being treated.
Sorry, says CM
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy has apologised to the people of the Old City for the police firing on Friday following the bomb explosions in Mecca Masjid in which five persons died.
He said the firing was a “mistake” and asked the people to forgive his government. The police firing has come under severe criticism as an over-reaction of the police.
MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi who represents Hyderabad that comprises Charminar area, said there was no need for excessive use of force and police firing. The police were highhanded and reckless while dealing with the emotionally charged youth who reacted involuntarily to the desecration of the Mecca Masjid, he said.
He demanded action against those who ordered the firing, saying the police were as callous as the culprits behind the explosions towards human life.
The chief minister has offered to order a CBI enquiry in to the police firing.
MIM is an ally of the ruling Congress and has unquestioned hold over the voters.
However, this was not in evidence on Friday when for the first time ever, an MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi was manhandled by angry people when he accompanied by two other Old City politicians went to the Osmania General Hospital as a show of support. The three men were jostled, abused verbally and their shirts torn in the melee. Meanwhile, the relatives of 10 persons who died on Friday claimed the bodies and performed their last rites.
