After elections it is time to concentrate on creative arts. Department of Kannada and Culture is conducting a five-day Karnataka Kala Utsav at Venkatappa Art Gallery from May 23. The festival comprises exhibition of works by senior artists, sculpture camp, screening of documentaries on visual arts, exhibition-cum-sale of art works and cultural programmes.The Kannada and Culture Department secretary I M Vittalamurthy, addressing a press conference, in Bangalore on Monday, said the department is holding this festival after a gap of four years.
The utsav will be held at Venkatappa Art Gallery, which has been renovated at an estimated cost of Rs 1.12 crore.
Art works of senior artists like Y Nagaraju, Rumale Chenna Basavaiah and others will be exhibited as part of the art festival. As many as 55 artists from Karnataka and neighbouring states will take part in the festival.
Documentary films on life of legendary artists directed by Girish Kasaravalli, Girish Karnad and Satyajit Ray will be screened. The festival will be inaugurated on May 23 at 10.30 am by artist S G Vasudev.
