The Archaeological and Monuments Conservation Forum of Sira has submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner of the CMC that the area around the historically significant Kasturirangappanayaka fort be identified as a tourist spot by the tourism department.
The 16the century Kasturirangappanayaka fort which was originally built by Kasturirangappanayaka has been home to the Bijapur Sultans, Mughals, Hyder Ali and his Tippu Sultan. The fort houses the remains of a palace, artifacts, temple ruins etc. These treasures need to be excavated and brought to light for all history lovers to see.
Illegal construction
The fort is surrounded by government land but illegal constructions have sprung up that have severely hampered the standing of the fort. “The archaeological department has to ensure that the fort is protected for future generations,” was the forum’s demand.
The Government secretaries from the Kannada and Culture Department and Tourism department have to send experts to the region and formulate programmes to protect the fort.
They also have demanded that the place be developed as a tourist spot and facilities be created for the convenience of the visitors.
Action assured
The CMC commissioner S Siddaramaiaha assured the group the necessary action would be taken after an evaluation of the site.
