Vinayak, Manager: The quality of education is definitely detereorating today. Education is becoming very self-centered, in the sense that students are opting for the same courses despite the fact that there are so many new and better avenues that have opened up today. No one thinks that the end result of education is to become a responsible citizen of the society.
Simran, student: Yes, the quality is no longer as good, especially in Bangalore University. The concepts are completely outdated. What we study in theory is usually not applicable in practice. If we have to start working, the principles that we learn will not be enough. The depressing part of our education system is that the evaluation is substandard.
Ashwini Raghu, doctor: From what I’ve heard, schools are burdening students with too much work in LKG itself. I can understand if they start pushing the student in the 5th std but not earlier. Also, government schools should buck up. Private and international schools are racing far ahead of them and it is a major disadvantage to study in governmental schools.
A S Wani, shop owner: I think the quality differs from college to college. It depends on which college one is talking about, the teachers and the students. If the coaching is up to the mark, the results speak for themselves. For example, the CET results in the smaller towns of Karnataka is usually better than that of the students in Bangalore. That speaks for itself.
