Lukka Chhuppi (Hide-‘n’-Seek), a children’s fim directed by Vinod Ganatra has brought to India the prestigious Silver Remi Award in the Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival.
The Children’s Film Society production won the Silver Remi out of the ten Remi Awards given to the best among 4,500 entries from all over the world. “The award to Lukka Chhuppi proves that issues of heart are the issues of the world – not limited to any community or clan or religion or geographical boundaries,” Mr Ganatra told Deccan Herald from Mumbai.
The Remi takes its name from the famous artist Frederick Remington, who is known for capturing the spirit of Texas and the Western part of the United States with his brilliant paintings and sculptures.
The film, a thriller that takes place entirely in Ladakh, is about a small servant boy, who is kidnapped for no apparent reasons, and two slightly elder boys who take it upon themselves to save him. The twists and turns in the story manage to keep the audience on the edge of the seat throughout its duration and the film ends in a grand climax in the middle of the magnificent Hamis Festival and Matho Monastery of Ladakh.
Shot entirely in Ladakh, the film boasts of mind-blowing visuals of the Ladakh countryside as well as the city of Leh. It is the first Indian children’s feature film made in beautiful locations of Ladakh situated at the height from 11,500 feet to to 17,800 feet. The cast of the film consists of Alok Nath, Kamal Chopra, Gary Richardson, Karla Singh, and several children from Ladakh who faced the camera for the first time. Ganatra’s earlier film, Heda Hoda (Blind Camel) had won six international awards at different film festivals and was selected for about 50 film festivals world over.
