Condemning the failure of Union and State Governments to address public problems, activists of Samajawadi party staged protest in the City on Tuesday.
Expressing ire against the economic policies of Union Government, protesters said that UPA Government has failed to control the fluctuating prices of petroleum products. Even prices of essential commodities are sky-rocketing due to which farmers and workers are facing hardships, they said.
Terming the loan waiver scheme of State Government as ‘unscientific,’ protesters said that loan upto Rs 25,000 borrowed from cooperative institutions in the year 2006-07 has been waived-off. However plight of farmers who have borrowed heavily due to perennial drought prevailing in State in previous years and due to crop failure and price slump has been neglected.
Partners in coalition Government are trying to take mileage from loan waiver scheme which has failed to serve real purpose, they alleged.
State Government has failed to address hiccups in public distribution system. Due to lapses in preparing list of below poverty line families, genuine persons are deprived of availing benefits under PDS. Even introduction of unit system in PDS is detrimental to interests of poor, they stated.
