The members of the Gulbarga District Affiliated Cricket Clubs Association on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) demanding a separate cricket zone for Gulbarga, and voting rights for the Gulbarga cricket clubs.
A memorandum regarding this was submitted to the Gulbarga deputy commissioner Headquarters' Assistant Ravikiran Vanti here on Tuesday by association President Raju Kulgeri and other office-bearers of the association. The memorandum was addressed to the KSCA secretary.
In the memorandum, Dr Raju Kulgeri has charged that the KSCA has completely neglected the Hyderabad-Karnataka region with regard to cricketing activities. He pointed out that other cricket zones formed by the KSCA in the State comprised only three districts each, but, the Raichur zone comprised of six districts.
Due to this, he said, the cricket boys in the zone had been unable to show their talent as less opportunities came their due to the factor that the zone comprised six districts. He said, in the past, this region had spawned good cricketers like Raghotam Navle and Vijay Madyalkar, Indian Railways Prabakar K, and others who represented the State for Ranji trophy.
Thereby, he demanded that a separate zone be carved out for Gulbarga, comprising the districts of Bidar, Gulbarga and Bijapur.
Secondly, Dr Kulgeri pointed out that, even tough Gulbarga district had the oldest cricket clubs like the N V Gymkhana, Karnataka Club, Cosmos Club, CRI Shahabad, Galaxy Club and others, which were formed in 1970s. Yet they do not have the voting rights in the KSCA. He demanded voting rights for these clubs.
He warned of serious measures if their demands were not conceded, which included a strongly worded letter to the Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI), and banning of KSCA activities in the region.
