Haseena Parkar, sister of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who has been evading arrest for two weeks, appeared before a local court after she was wanted in a case of extortion, cheating and forgery.
The sessions court while adjourning hearing on Haseena Parkar’s plea for anticipatory bail till Wednesday directed the police not to arrest her till the case is heard on Wednesday. The court, however, told the police that she can be kept under surveillance.
Haseena, who police say remained untraceable ever since her name figured in the case, appeared before the sessions judge N D Desphande in dramatic circumstances, accompanied by four women dressed identically in an apparent bid to divert attention.
When Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian raised doubts whether any of the five burqa clad women was Haseena, she raised the veil covering her face briefly and her lawyer identified her to the court.
On Tuesday morning, the judge had given her time till evening to appear before the court.
A local court on May 10 had issued non-bailable warrants against Haseena and four others after a real estate agent filed a case against them with the Anti-Extortion Cell, Mumbai. The court had pulled up the Mumbai police as to why they were not able to arrest the don’s sister.
