Nun murder: CFSL test affirms tampering
DH News Service, Thiruvananthapuram:

A district court here has affirmed that there are clear signs of a massive cover-up effort behind the 15-year-old Sister Abhaya murder case to which some powerful people are believed to be connected.
The court on Tuesday ordered the police to register a case against Chief Chemical Examiner (CCE) R Geeta and lab analyst Chitra for making deliberate corrections in the work register of the chemical examination conducted on the nun’s body. As reported earlier, the original chemical examination report of the vaginal swab and vaginal smear of the nun were found to have been tampered with. Words were found to have been added and overwritten so as to contradict the original result that semen was detected in the nun’s vagina. The rape element had cropped up only after the new expose.
Tuesday’s court order follows a report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) at Hyderabad which examined the work register. The CFSL confirmed that the corrections were not as simple as was claimed to be. The court found that both Geetha and Chitra were responsible for making the corrections and have summoned them on May 28. Ms Geetha continued to maintain that the corrections were done as a matter of procedure and that they were not deliberate.

It may be noted that the CJM had ordered seizure of the register soon after the sensational expose came up. However, the new development has not quite given any fresh impetus to the investigations done by the CBI.
The body of the 21-yr-old  nun was found in the well of  of the convent on March 27, 1992.
