Dear Sir,
I done M.Sc in Anthropology. I now want to take up counselling as my career. Can I work as a counsellor with my present qualifications? If yes where can I apply? And if I need to do a course for it which part time or distance learning courses would you recommend?
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
An M.Sc in Anthropology may not be sufficient for you to work as a counsellor, though it will be an advantage. You may take up a distance learning two year M.Sc course in applied psychology from Madras University, or a one year PG Diploma from Annamalai or Kuvempu university. If you are interested in working with children, you can do a six month Certificate in Guidance from IGNOU. Added to any of these courses, you should seek practical exposure by working as an apprentice or trainee with any counselling organisation.
Dear Sir,
I finished my 10th with 90% marks. I am applying for PCMC (computer science) for my +2. After my PUC I am interested in doing Fashion Designing. Which combination in +2 will help me in this? Is there any other option? Can I do fashion designing after any degree? Which are the good colleges and short term Fashion designing courses?
Sunayana K Rao
Dear Sunayana
If you enjoy Math and Physics, it is certainly good to take up PCMC for your +2, since it will give you a stronger foundation and will open the doors for various degree courses. So stick to your decision. After your +2 you can take up a three year B.Sc in Fashion and Apparel Design which is being offered by many colleges affiliated to Bangalore and other universities. You may also try for admission in the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) which has regional centres including one at Bangalore. Learning computer graphics will enhance your efficiency since in the coming years most of the design work will be done through computers.
Dear Sir,
My son has appeared in class 10 exam (Chattisgarh State) and wants to pursue a degree in Aeronautical engineering. Please give me a list of colleges where this course is available and also the admission procedure. How should he prepare?
Sheel
Dear Sheel,
Aeronautical engineering is available in IIT’s, NIT’s and a few other prestigious colleges in India. The admission procedure is through IIT-JEE, AIEEE, and independent entrance exams by the deemed universities. He should take up Math, Physics and Chemistry for his +2. Coaching from a reputed institute may be beneficial. He can also get old question papers and try answering them after a year or so. Do keep in mind that he can also enter the Aeronautical field by qualifying as an Electronics, Computer Science, Instrumentation or Mechanical engineer.
Dear Sir,
I just finished my 12th (CBSE). I want to become a Commercial Pilot. But I’ve heard that there are a large number of students with CPL’s who don’t have a job. What are the job opportunities and the processes involved?
I have also written four engineering entrance examination.
Alpha
Dear Alpha,
It is nice that you have written engineering entrance exams, because relying entirely on getting a Commercial Pilot License may be taking a risk. It is true that there is a shortage of pilots, but it is mostly at the senior (Commanders) level, not for freshers. Many fresh pilots are finding it increasingly difficult to get a job. Also, preference is given to those who have qualified abroad with exposure to more sophisticated multi-engine, jets, night flying, etc. Also, many students do not realise that there are very tough theory papers to be passed before one can qualify as a pilot.
Dear Sir,
I am a BE (Bio technology) graduate, currently working as a HR in a Consultancy for the past eight months. I want to do my MBA (HR). Which is the best institute to do my MBA (HR) through correspondence in Bangalore? Does MBA and PGDM have the same weight?
Deepa
Dear Deepa,
MBA is awarded by recognised universities, whereas PG Diploma in Management is often awarded by autonomous institutions (including IIM’s). So it is the institute offering the qualification that is important, not the name of the degree of diploma. If you wish to do your MBA in HR through correspondence, you need not restrict yourself to a Bangalore University. Study centres of various universities offer the course anywhere in the country. Bangalore University, Karnataka State Open University, IGNOU, Madurai Kamraj, are some of the reputed ones you can consider.
