Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s sister, Haseena Parkar, who lives in Mumbai, fainted in the sessions court on Wednesday after the judge asked her to approach a metropolitan magistrate to seek cancellation of the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against her.
The arrest warrant had been issued against her two weeks back after a construction group Ravi Builders lodged a complaint of cheating and extortion against her. The group has claimed that it had advanced Rs one crore to her associates, but they refused to repay Rs 30 lakh.
Haseena, who had mediated the deal, had allegedly told the complainant to “forget” the money and threatened him with dire consequences if he persisted with his demand for the repayment.
After the complaint was lodged, the police tried to trace Haseena, but she suddenly went underground. Search teams were sent to various places in Maharashtra and other states to locate her, but she remained untraceable.
However, on Tuesday, she stunned the police and the media by making a dramatic appearance in the sessions court, where she filed an application for an anticipatory bail in the case. She was then directed to reappear before the court on Wednesday.
The media was in full strength at the sessions court, but Haseena, like a true sister of her fugitive underworld brother, was too clever. All of a sudden, a taxi reached near the court gate and five women, all clad in burqa, alighted from it.
They entered the court from five different directions, sending the press photographers into a tizzy. In the courtroom, the public prosecutor, Rohini Salian, raised doubts whether any of the five burqa clad women was Haseena. It was only then that Haseena raised her veil briefly and her lawyer identified her to the court.
The court then directed the police not to arrest her till Thursday, that is for a day, when she has been allowed to move the metropolitan magistrate for the cancellation of the arrest warrant and getting an anticipatory bail.
The court, however, allowed the police to keep the enigmatic lady under surveillance.
As soon as the court proceedings were over, Haseena fainted and was helped into a chair. A few minutes later, she left the court along with the women accompanying her.
