Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s grama vastavya (village stay) in Raichur is yet to materialise. Perhaps the time is still not right. It was cancelled twice before for some or the other reason.
Both times, the CM’s office had sent directions to the deputy commissioner and all arrangements were made for welcoming him. However, it did not materialise both times.
Had it not been for differences between the former and present legislators, Mr Kumaraswamy was supposed to stay at Eralagaddi village of the taluk on January 3.
Fearing that former legislator Basanagouda Byagavata’s image would ‘improve,’ Kalmala legislator Muniyappa Muddappa JD (S)was successful in getting the CM’s programme cancelled.
Later, with the intentions of both pleasing senior legislator Muniyappa as well as keeping his words about the visit, the CM decided to stay in any one of the villages which came under the limits of Muniyapp’s constituency, on April 17. However, it was around this time that the 9-year-old boy Sandeep fell into an open borewell. Following this, the programme was cancelled yet again.
Chain of problems
Several organisations, leaders and resident are waiting for an opportunity to speak to Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, to discuss the problems being faced by the people.
They are all a disappointed lot as the CM’s visits have been cancelled repeatedly. The problems being faced by the residents are growing by the day. Most villages do not have basic facilities such as drinking water, good roads, cleanliness.
Modernisation of Tunga Bhadra Left Bank Canal, extension of Narayanapura Right Bank Canal, construction of 9 ‘A’ canal, drip irrigation projects of Mudhol and Bolamanadoddi are still a mirage. The starting of Agriculture University is almost forgotten. The demand to provide comprehensive power supply to agricultural pumpsets is yet to be fulfiled. The residents here are fully aware that one visit by the chief minister is not going to solve their problems. However, they would like to bring these problems to the CM’s notice.
