Alkod to visit Gulbarga today
   Youth Services and Sports Minister Alkod Hanumantappa will visit Gulbarga on May 25, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.
   At 9 am, he is scheduled to visit the district stadium and hold discussions with the department officials. Latter in the afternoon he will be leaving for Devadurga

MEd course training
   Doddappa Appa IAS Training Institute of Gulbarga will offer CET type training for admission to Masters of Education (MEd) course every day from 4 pm to 6 pm at Godutai BEd College for Women, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.

Bhagyalakshmi scheme
   As many as 9766 beneficiaries have been selected in the district under the Bhagyalakshmi Scheme under which financial security is given to a girl child born in a BPL family.
   According to Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P C Jaffar the beneficiaries include 2860 SC, 473 ST and 1509 minority. Since April 1, 2006, 28,904 baby girls have born in the district and out of them 14,524 girls belong to BPL families.
   However due to certain reasons, like lack of BPL card, birth certificate etc., all the girl children born in BPL families could not be covered, he added.

Applications for hostels
   Applications have been invited from eligible students for admission to 11 pre-matric government hostels and seven aided hostels in Gulbarga City as well as in the taluk, and 11 pre-matric government hostels in Shahapur taluk, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.
   Students studying in fifth to 10th standard belonging to backward class, SC/ST are eligible. Prescribed application forms can be obtained from the respective taluk panchayat offices. The last date for submitting application is June 10, an official release by the Department of Backward Class and Minority Welfare said.

Office-bearers selected
   The following persons are appointed as office-bearers of Nutan Vidyalaya Society: Shyamrao Khanage (Secretary), Prabakarao Algudkar, Srikanth Kulkarni and Gautam Jahagirdar (Joint-secretaries), Pradeep Murudkar (Chairman - sports committee) and Janardhan Katti (Chairman - academic committee). Mr Muralidhar Rao was appointed as president recently, according to a press release issued here.
