Crush sugar cane, farmers demand

Factories have already stopped crushing the sugar cane. Sugar cane crop is being destroyed even though factories agreed to purchase, as permission was not given to reap the crop.

   Sugar cane farmers  demonstrated a mock suicide, demanding continuation of crushing and purchasing of sugar cane, in front of DC office here on Thursday.
   The protesters, led by Rajya Raita Sangha and Hasiru Sene, alleged sugar cane crop has withered in the field itself. Factories have already stopped crushing the sugar cane. Sugar cane crop is being destroyed even though factories agreed to purchase, as permission was not given to reap the crop.
Govt’s apathy
   Complaining negligiance of the coilation government towards sugar cane and paddy farmers they  forced the government to come forward to help the sugar cane farmers and to give support price to paddy and asked to fix scientific price to it and also to avoid privatization, government itself shoud open sugar cane purchasing centre. The farmers poured the sugar cane brought in the tractors and fired and proclaimed against the government.
Meet with DC
   Earlier to this leaders had discussion with the Deputy Commissioner M B Dyaaberi and requested to start crushing of sugar cane and  should be continued till the crop ends. The factories are pretencing of repairing boiler, cleaning and it will be delayed to open for next season. But the repair of boilers can be completed in 24 hours and start crushing the sugar cane.
   They also requested to take action that factories to purchase the crop within two or three days.
   Deputy Commissioner  M B Dyaaberi assured farmers that immediately he will convey the message to higher officers through fax.
   Directions are given to cancel the license and to include in the black list, those who have distributed poor quality seeds.
   There are possibilities of getting remedy according to the court’s direction soon after consumer courts decision comes out, he said.
   The crop kept in front of the office  weighing around 12 ton is simply drying up. The labour who has reaped the sugar cane is looking for his wages and the farmer is thinking to of other ways of life, they said.
