A touch of glass

Glass and Glass is an exbihition of fused glass by Nirmala Muralimohan. It will be held on May 25 and 26 at Raintree, Sankey Road,  High Grounds from 10 am to 7 pm and on May 28 and 29 at Prathibha Jewellery, Richmond Circle from 11 am to 7 pm.
Fused glass is created by firing together pieces of compatible glass to a temperature high enough to cause them to melt together into a permanently blended unit. The art has become  popular in the last 20 years.
It is only twenty years since this art has become popular.
The name ‘glass fusing’ is attributed to the art and craft of blending different glasses into a new permanent glass, comprised of previously separate glasses. The finished objects are identified as fused or kiln-fired glass and it is possible to make a range of objects or any shape or size with glass kiln working techniques.
Although glass was fused in ancient times, modern equipment, materials and techniques are used in artisitic expression.
Nirmala Muralimohan got into art after getting a bachelor’s degree in science. She has won a variety of designer hats over the years. She finds this a holistic way to express herself as the possibilities that exist in glass with respect to light, texture and colour, appeal to her creative side.
Her objects made of fused glass have graced many homes in India and abroad.  She can be contacted at 9900260223.
