Jammu and Kashmir government has initiated action on the recommendations of the four working groups set up on the directions of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
The working groups had to give recommendations for centre-state relations, confidence building measures (CBMs) within J&K, CBMs with POK, economic development and good governance. Five working groups were set up after the third round table conference here in May last year.
Except for the working group dealing with centre-state relations, all other groups submitted their reports to the union government before the third round table conference in New Delhi in April.
The reports came under discussion during the meet.
Later the prime minister’s office (PMO) sent the four reports to the state government for action. “We received the reports from PMO some eight days. The reports were discussed at a high level meeting of senior officers here. We have asked the concerned state government departments to prepare action plan on the basis of the reports,” said Khurshid A Ganai, principal secretary to general administration department (GAD).
He added that the action plans would be later discussed with central government for implementation. Political parties in Kashmir are not happy over the slow pace of work by the group dealing with centre-state relations. PDP has routed its self rule proposal and NC its autonomy proposal through the group. PDP has come under severe criticism for its self rule proposal by the opposition parties who describe it as a carbon copy of Pakistan president Gen Pervez Musharaf’s self rule proposal. But the party leaders claimed that their self rule proposal is within the country’s constitution.
