Continuing its efforts to woo the voters through media coverage in the run up to the Ullal by-polls, BJP State Secretary and MLC D S Veeraiah held a press meet at the BJP office on Friday.
   He said the allegations made by the Congress Party that BJP is anti-poor is baseless. In fact, the JD(S)-BJP coalition government has announced various projects for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes including construction of two Morarji Desai Schools for the backward sections in the State.
   He added that while the Congress government had set aside only upto Rs 674 crore for Social Welfare Dpartment in 2004-05, the present State government has set aside Rs 2,900 crore in 2007-08.
   “Though I am from Scheduled Community, I have been elected by the BJP to Vidhan Parishat. Hence the Congress is making baseless allegations,” he added.
