Children in schools finding themselves in any dangerous situation can press a panic button instituted in their schools and CTC Sanjeevini will rush to their rescue. This is due to the unique `Vidyarthi Suraksha’ plan launched by the group under which 400 schools are covered.
Students are also taught first aid by physical education teachers of the schools who serve as coordinators, said Dr Venkatramana, managing trustee when delivering an address at a fashion show. The group plans to reach out to many more of the 3,000 odd schools in the City, he added.
“No one should die on the road and it is the responsibility of each one of us to ensure this,” Venkatraman added. The trustee urged children and adults to dial CTC Sanjeevini’s emergency helpline 1062.
“The first hour following any accident, the `golden hour’, is when the patient requires much care and dialling this number would ensure instant treatment to the victim by CTC staff free of cost.
Bangalore has a very high accident rate with 8,000 accidents each year resulting in 900 deaths. The victims are mostly in the 15–45 age group and most of the deaths could be averted if immediate care is provided to the victim. CTC Sanjeevini has effected 38,000 rescue efforts in the City free of cost the last seven years and has brought down the roadside death rate from 32 per cent in 2000 to 3% today.
