Two tribals died and another is struggling to survive after they were affected with anthrax in Orissa’s tribal dominated Koraput district.
Both deaths have occurred during the last three days, official sources confirmed on Friday.
“Two tribals have died in two remote villages of Kulab and Padigad during the last three days after they were infected with the dreaded anthrax virus.
Another tribal affected with the same disease is struggling for his life”, the chief district medical officer (CDMO), Koraput, Dr HK Reddy said. He said, preliminary investigation suggested that the tribals were affected with the dreaded disease after consuming infected dry beef.
“The tribals in the area have a habit of consuming dry beef. The outbreak of the disease could have been caused by infected dry beef”, the CDMO said adding that a team of doctors had already rushed to the two affected villages to tackle the situation.
Dr Reddy further informed that another team of vet medicos had also been sent to both the affected villages to examine the domestic animals.
